I got bugs
Author Last Post

I wish I had some advice to offer, but I don't. I would not be able to tackle the wood replacement myself, but have to take it to a reliable boatyard. Looks like you'd lose a sailing season either way. It would be devastating to me to find what you found! Let us know what you decided to do.

Doug,

What condition is the hull and deck in? The great thing about Ensigns is that with the amount of fiberglass in them most everything else is repairable. While it is quite a bit of work to do all of the wood, a major project no doubt of it, if the hull and deck are in decent shape ripping out and replacing the wood would mean you have a good boat for the foreseeable future.

Robin

I just uncovered my Ensign from its winter hibernation and found quite a bit of termite damage and an active infestation. I can see that all of the teak floor boards will need to be redone, and likely the benches and coaming too. But what worries me is that I can put my hand through the forward bulkhead. I know I am ar least looking at a major overhaul- but I’m wondering with all of the “hidden” wood such as the core, is it even worth it to rebuild? Or should I junk it?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Doug Watson
