Look at this picture of my Ensign #221. The boom position is controlled by a combination of a mainsheet coming down from the boom and belayed to a vintage bronze cleat sitting on a round 4" piece of wood, and then further connecting to a traveler with a red line and a blue line to control movement laterally of the traveler. The colored lines, depending on which one is being used per tack, are belayed to a cleat mounted on the wooden seat backings in the cockpit.

Is this a normal setup to control the mainsheet and the position of the boom? Seems complicated. Tacking causes the mainsheet tot

get tangled up in that vintage bronze cleat on top of the wood.

Any ideas are appreciated.
