Lazy Jack

Thanks Bill.

Donny,

I drilled & tapped, then coated the machine screws with Lanocoat (Forespar) to prevent seizing. Most of the fittings if I recall were 8-32.

Bill,

When you mounted the hardware on the mast for the Lazy Jack did you use rivets or screws?

Thanks,

Donnie

Bill,
Great advice.Thanks so much.
I really enjoy the Ensign. Her name is Bobi-Sue. I bought the boat the summer of 2021 from a salesman at Lake Lanier, GA. The boat is moored at Browns Creek Sailing Club on Lake Guntersville, AL. I love sailing her, working on and improving the boat, and also love just going down to the lake and sitting on her, enjoying the sun and the breeze. She's a classic, built in 1964. Other members admire her too.
Thanks again for your advice.

Donnie,

I bought the Nautos kist as well, albeit it was not the pre-spliced version. It has worked out very well.

I mounted the hardware before I had the mast stepped when I first bought the boat. I didn't have the instructions you quote, but I mounted the upper block up where the forestay attached to the mast. It's proved to be a good functional location for me.

Remember to leave enough line to release the jacks once the mainsail is secured. I pull them down and slip them under the reefing hooks at the gooseneck then tighten and tie them off. This way they don't interfere with the cockpit cover.

Good luck with it. I just sold my boat, will miss her...

Hi All, in keeping with my goal of sailing the Ensign by myself, I have purchased a Lazy Jack, but I haven't installed it yet. Was hoping to get some feedback from any of you who have also installed one. I bought the Nautos 001R Splice - Lazy Jack System - Type A - Small Size- with Rope Included and Spliced Blocks. First, I was surprised that the topmost hardware is to be installed at a point 75% up the mast. I learned something there and will need help. Secondly, screws nor rivets are "not included", and they mention them both with pictures and dimensions. So I guess I have a choice.

So, I would appreciate any advice y'all can give me before I begin the experience.

Thanks,

Donnie George
