Newport Brand Electric Motors

I have 2 100ah batteries in my boat.  By adding a 3rd I could get the 36v needed at 100ah.  Not portable but would get the job done for just the price of the motor.

HI Richard,

Thanks for the info.  I took a look at the latest price for a Torqeedo longshaft Travel 1103 on West Marine and its currently $2,949, $3,127 with tax with free ship to store option.  Newport NT300 is $2,110 with tax and free shipping.  The Torqeedo 603 is around $2,100 but does not come in the needed long shaft and is only 2 HP.  Both the Torqeedo 1103 and the Newport NT300 are long shaft with 3 HP.  There is a weight advantage to Torqeedo at 39 lbs all in whereas the Newport is 26.5 lbs and the Newport battery is 24 lbs for a total of 50.5 lbs.

Battery comparison:
Torqeedo
915 wh

Newport
36v 30A 1080 wh - Newport calls this 1200wh on the battery case but  the specs say 1080wh

Looks like the price is close to a Torqeedo once you add the battery. I actually use a Newport 24v 86lbs trolling motor on my Ensign with 2 100ah batteries. Only need it to get on/off the mooring but I have run it the 3 miles from our launch to the mooring field as well as cruised around the lake with it. It moves the Ensign at 3 knots and I can run it about 5 miles at 75% and only use about half a charge. From 75-100% the range is cut considerable and only adds .2 knots. The motor came with the boat so I only had to buy the batteries but the motor is only around $300. Its weakness is stopping the boat. Reverse does almost nothing but you can leave it in forward and spin it around backwards. Quite a bit more thrust in the forward position but still takes a lot to slow an Ensign.

Hello All,

I was doing a little research on electric motors similar to a Torqeedo and I found Newport: https://newportvessels.com/products/nt300-electric-outboard-motor?variant=43011268903073

Does anyone have any experience with Newport? Look like you can get a long shaft outboard for around $1300 (needs separate battery). Much cheaper than a Torqeedo even if you buy the 36V 30A Lithium Ion battery for $849. Of course, the battery is separate as opposed to the Torqeedo with the battery design built into the motor.

Thanks,

Guy
